Jim 04/18/06 2:28:06 PM One thing nice about e-mail is that sometimes you need to dig up an old e-mail to remind someone what was actually communicated. I like the idea of limiting the amount of time that other people can read a message, but how can I read an old message? Briefile would be even better if I could continue to limit others from reading the message, yet I could still read expired briefiles that I created. I will create a task for development to look into this. Today, the only way to review the contents of an old expired briefile is if you first saved the information in another program like Word. When you click the 'Paypal buy now' button, you can either purchase with your paypal account (if you have one) or use a credit card.  How much does it cost? Tim Johnson 02/26/06 00:25:15 AM When you create a briefile, the data is stored behind the briefile web server and is deleted when the briefile expires. The actual briefile on your computer only contains an ID. The briefile server has complete control over the actual data and therefore deletes it when the briefile expires. But the briefile web server cannot remotely delete the briefile stored on your computer. That's why the user needs to delete expired briefiles. Think about it this way. If a briefile was forwarded to 100 people. The briefile web server would have no way of knowing who has a copy of the briefile and no way of deleting them. But the good news is that it doesn't matter, because they will not be able to access the data after the briefile has expired. That's the beauty of this product.  Why does the 'New' button erase the screen? Anonymous 02/26/06 8:01:24 PM Why doesn't the 'New' button open another briefile program like office does, instead of erasing the screen? 'Open' button also erase text. Why doesn't the 'Open' button open a breifile in a new briefile program, like Word does. Tim Johnson 02/26/06 8:02:50 PM The Briefile program is a Single Document Interface - meaning that it can only open 1 document at a time. The 'New' and 'Open' buttons operate similar to other Single Document Interface program like Notepad. Notepad is a Single Document Interface Word is a Multiple Document Interface At this time, we are planning to continue with a Single Document Interface because the Briefile program was not designed to replace the functionality of a word processor program. The Briefile program was designed to allow someone to share sensitive information while controlling its available duration - and that's it. We realize that Briefile is a new tool in the toolbox, and it may take some time to understand how and when to use it - verses using an old tool.  Re: Why does the 'New' button erase the screen? Joe 03/21/06 11:44:10 PM When I Bold a word, and then Underline it, the Bold disapears. Same for Italics. I can not combine a Bold, Underline, or Italic all at the same time. Tim Johnson 03/21/06 11:44:59 PM It's true, the Bold and Underline buttons will not let you Bold and Underline the same text. But, you can do it with the Formate->Font... menu option - by checking the 'Underline' checkbox and selecting the 'Bold' font style. Tim Johnson 02/07/06 11:46:46 AM No, because the 'PrintSceen' button - and the Copy (Ctl-C) and Cut (Ctl-V) are disabled. But, we cannot stop an unauthorized user from methods like taking a photograph of their screen or using a third-party screen capture tools to capture the screen. These methods can get at the data, but because an unauthorized user would have to go out of their way, we believe there will be very few instances of this type of intrusion. The likelyhood of this type of intrusion is further reduced because briefiles are only accessible for a limited period of time before expiring.  What type of encryption is being used? Tim Johnson 04/29/06 12:23:38 PM Most file encryption solutions store the encryped data within the file, and therefore expose the encrypted data to a thief for possible decrypting. Briefile is different, because the encrypted data is stored behind our web server. The only thing that is actually in a briefile is a unique id. Therefore, the encrypted data is never exposed. We also feel that giving away information about how we are encrypting the data would only help a thief. If your user account type does not have access to install programs, you may need to ask you IT department to install the Briefile program for you.
